Magic Strikes Discussion

We are now discussing Magic Strikes by Ilona Andrews. If you have read up to chapter seventeen, please feel free to join us. If you read past that, join us. Spoilers ahead.



Melissa's
-Will Kate eat her words and have to serve Curran dinner? Ha! That girl needs to learn about challenging the Beast Lord. Do you think Curran will find them before the 3 days?

- Will Derek make it?

- What do you think the Reapers are? What are they up to?

Robyn's
- Do you think Derek will survive? How will he change?

- Mart stared at her towards the end of the reading. What could he have been thinking?

- When Curran discovers them and you know he will. I just can't see him standing back. What do you think he'll do to Kate? You know he'll be upset about what she is doing.

  1. LOL! Seems Derek is on both of our minds. :D

    He is really my favorite, from the beginning. (Although, Curran is creeping up there rather quickly too!)

    I don't want to lose Derek!!! I can't lose Derek! Oh, it would be something to stir up the characters, Curran for one and Kate. But Derek has to be around when they get together. So he can do his "I knew it" remark. lol.

    I really hope they find a way to let him heal.

    1. Sorry it took so long. Worked the early shift today.

      I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Derek. He has to live. I feel like he's important. Kate's a strong woman but I know when Curran isn't around, he's her protector. Plus I love how he's her sidekick.

    2. I also wonder about Derek and how he'll be. Will he be the same? Like somehow he'll pull through.

      Will he be insane? Will be strong again or will he have to practice.

    3. Yes, Ilona Andrews has started to set Derek up as a potential alpha. His personality and all.

      And yes, I love Derek is her unofficial sidekick too! :D He really seems to have taken on that rule as he knows Curran's feelings. Curran probably didn't say anything to him, he can just see it. :)

      Oh, I do hope Derek pulls through at a better than hoped end. I know they said he may not be the same, but I hope he is very close to it. He has those black marks, where the lypo isn't curing, and is all dead. That worries me.

    5. Oh! Do you think Derek is doing this for the girl out of love? Or is something else involved here? I'm not sure which way to go with that. It could be love, but for some reason I think there is more to this girl than that.

      I think it could be love for him but the girl, I'm not sure about. Did she do it for love or maybe someone made her?

  2. Oh that Mart! I don't like him. I think he is the one that starred at her when she first showed up at the arena with Saiman too!

    He seems to know something about her. Or have his eye on her for some reason.

    And the movements of these Reapers! I almost get the feel they are animals, turned human. There is some major magic involved here.

    I wonder if the man that Kate is after might be involved some how. Roland?

    These characters are bad news, and we are just getting to the point of getting deep with them! I can't wait to finish this read.

    1. I really don't trust Mart. He has to know something but what? This would be the first time they met, right? Do you think she could look like Roland and he knows Roland? Although, she could look more like her mother. Maybe he knew about her mother and Roland. Ahh, I need to know!!!

    2. The Reapers, I would love to know what they are. You know we'll have to learn more about them in the next book but how much? Will they make an appearance again?

    3. Ooo, that is a great question on Mart and Roland. I don't know. I can't remember if it was mentioned who she looks more like.

      But makes me wonder! Roland has to come into play here somewhere. He is the one she is after and all the ruckus she is making he has to know who she is. It was said her m-scan was different when her "niece" saw it, so he has to know she is different, or maybe like him. ;)

    4. I'm thinking we will learn about the reapers here and get a close on them. But, maybe we will have one or two survive and cause us trouble in the future. lol. I do think there is a chance thet Roland is involved. We need to start seeing him more, to drive Kate more to a breaking point. We are on the third book of the series.

    5. I'm wondering if Roland is going to be one of those characters you hear about but never see until the end. But he does have to make a cameo at some point.

      I could see them meeting and Roland hurting her. Of course Curran will be there for her, haha. But I think Roland will do harm to her that she'll get more angry and take it out on people.

  3. Oh my!! I know Curran will find Kate & Jim. You know it!

    Kate had to go make that promise about dinner and serving it naked. Really!?! That was a challenge to the Beast Lord to go on the hunt. He will find them. He's been following her anyway!

    But yes, he will have to fight with her, he has too! Or come to her rescue anyway. The man has to flex his muscles.

    But! The question becomes how will he approve them being involved with the games when he put the order out that no one in the pack was allowed to participate in them?

    And I can't wait to see Kate eat her words! LOL! That is going to be to funny. Curran will hold her to it too! He has to!

    1. When Curran discovers the truth and I bet he does, there is going to be a fight. Curran will first get mad at Jim for getting Kate involved and plus there is the Derek situation. He won't want to be mean but being a beast lord comes first.

      With Kate? I could see them fighting verbally and physically but if they fight physically, you know what could happen. Look what happened in her bedroom.

    2. Oh there is no doubt that Curran is going to be pissed at Jim! But I think Kate kind of made it known with her phone call she was going with Jim, not that Jim was taking her. So maybe that will help Jim on the Kate issue.

      But Derek is another issue all together. Curran will be heartbroken and beyond fury. I just hope they start to get him healed before Curran finds them.

      And with Kate! LOL! Oh yes! It has to happen. She has admited as much, and offering dinner the way she did. Yep. He's getting dinner and so much more. lol!!!

  4. Do you think Curran has been stalking Kate? He seems to know about what she's been doing, where she's at, and has a key to her house! He's been looking in on her. Awwww, I thought sweet, yet stalker! lol.

    I like finding out about the shifter ways through her friend. That is neat to learn with Kate.

    I like that he has and eye on Kate, protective and other wise. :)

    1. I definitely think he's stalking her. He seems to know when to show up. Remember at the beginning when she was with her friends? He just happens to be there.

      I love how he acts like having a key to her house is no big deal.

    2. LOL! Oh yes! at the resturant! LOL! I laughed at that. Kate always seems to be putting her foot in her mouth when Curran, unknowingly to Kate, shows up. LOL! That was cute.

      And yes, the key thing was cute. I can see where she gets stalker from. But cute he is watching over her. :) I think I'm falling for Curran too now.

  5. Okay,sorry. This weekend didn't turn out the way I had hoped. I had tons of things I wanted to do, and haven't even started them yet. Friday was spent with family going to the mall and running, then Saturday was spent all day at the car dealer. I got a new vehicle as mine was falling apart. So I guess today is going to be cram day. lol.

  6. I did like the touch of a history story we got from Jim here, through Derek's history too. And it tied in Curran's family history too! LOL! That was nicely done with the three of them.

  7. I know we are three books into the series, but I'm really ready for more on Kate and who she is. And what her blood means. I need that now. I don't want to be kept in the dark much longer. I want to know about this Roland and her mother. What is going on there. It needs to start coming out.... Well, not needs, but I want it. ;)

  8. Did you catch there was a man when Kate and Siaman and her first went into the VIP room at the fights? Who was that man? He was excused from the room when he seemed to be approaching Kate and Siaman. I wonder who he was. I think he was not a Reaper because Siaman mentions they Reapers were not there yet.

  9. How about Saiman's original form! Now that brings a whole new twist to his character, and so much potential to the story line with him. :D I like that!

  10. What about this Wolf Diamond that is up for the winner of the games? Sounds like there is more to it than just a pretty gem. Is there magic included with it?
